Sri Lankan off-spinner Mutthiah Muralitharan made the perfect ending to a brilliant race to claim his 800th Test wicket in his last match against India here on Thursday and become the first bowler to reach the milestone.
Muralitharan, who had eight wickets below the record high of 800 to enter his Test swansong ended with figures of eight for 191. It took five to 63 in the first innings and three for 128 in the second.
Pragya Ojha became Muralitharan 800th Test when he was caught walking Jayawerdena Mahele sheets.
Muralitharan’s 800 Test wickets came in 133 matches with an average of 22.74.

Thirty-eight years old Muttiah Muralitharan became the first pitcher who has reached the milestone of 800 victims. The historical match began 181 / 5 and the legend of spinning reached 799 wickets when upset (leg-before) Harbhajan Singh for eight. Ayub said Muralitharan had changed spin bowling in Sri Lanka and has inspired many young people.

Former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar Muralitharan described as a match winner who has played the game in its true spirit.

His greatest skill was that he could not turn the ball in any window. He could make a huge tower, “said Vengsarkar.

Muralitharan critics have repeatedly raised the issue of his bowling action, but Prasanna said the controversy has been the story. “Since it has been approved by a committee, there should be no more speculation,” he said.
